About The
Earl Jones Institute
The Earl Jones Institute For Film and Television was founded in 1983 by pioneering Stage, Film and Television actor Earl Jones, a/k/a Robert Earl Jones. The Earl Jones Institute, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Best known for the role of Luther Coleman in “The Sting” with Robert Redford and Paul Newman, Robert Earl Jones is the father of legendary actor James Earl Jones.
Located in New York City, and originally known as the Harlem Folklore Theatre, the Institute’s original focus was to assist actors, directors, producers and playwrights showcase their talents.
While open to all, the Institute gave special consideration to women, minorities and other historically underutilized individuals in Arts & Entertainment.
In 2004, the leadership of the Institute was passed to veteran television commercial producer Matthew Earl Jones by James Earl Jones.
Matthew Earl Jones is the son of Robert Earl Jones, and the brother of James Earl Jones.
In 2004 the focus was expanded to include film, television and Digital Media.
